The Institute of Future Fuels researches processes that enable the production of fuels and chemical base materials using renewable energy sources and resources. The focus is on the utilisation of solar heat and electricity as well as sustainable process management.

What To Expect

In the Department of Solar Chemical Process Development, we are jointly researching innovative materials, processes and reactors that make it possible to produce critical chemical base materials such as hydrogen, ammonia or lime using renewable energies. We develop sustainable concepts for the storage and provision of process heat and for the utilisation of renewable heat in recycling processes.

An important part of our work is researching and testing new materials, processes and technologies on a laboratory and pilot scale. To this end, we utilise a modern infrastructure of laboratories and large-scale facilities. The experimental validation of physical and chemical properties of the developed materials using analytical methods is of central importance.

In your master's thesis, you will work with us to research a novel synthesis process for ammonia, which is based on a redox cycle. The main focus of the thesis will be on the production and characterisation of the materials used and the process steps, as well as the development and optimisation of the reactor concept.

Become part of our multinational, interdisciplinary research team, carry out experiments independently and as part of a team and evaluate the data obtained in order to optimise the processes and materials used.

Your Tasks

• Synthesis and characterisation of the metal oxides used
• Development and optimisation of the laboratory reactor
• Planning, implementation and evaluation of ammonia synthesis as a redox cycle process on a laboratory scale
• Documentation and presentation of the results
  
  

Your profile

• Ongoing Master's degree in the field of process engineering, chemistry, materials science or similar
• Practical experience of working in chemical laboratories
• Basic knowledge of solid state chemistry/physics
• Basic knowledge of thermodynamics
• Good oral and written communication skills in German or English
• Commitment and willingness to learn as well as a communicative and team-orientated manner
  
  

Depending on qualifications and the tasks assigned, remuneration will be up to pay group 5 TVöD.
