Who we are

Bactera GmbH is an early-stage biotechnology company based in Cologne focused on microbiome-based diagnostics and the development of personalized microbiome therapies, including oral FMT capsule systems.

Our work combines microbiome sequencing, laboratory diagnostics, regulatory preparation, and translational microbiome research with the long-term goal of developing clinically relevant microbiome-based therapeutic approaches.

We are currently in the phase of building our laboratory and regulatory infrastructure and are actively expanding our clinical and scientific network.

What the role is about

We are looking for a physician collaborator to support the medical, clinical, and regulatory aspects of the project, particularly in relation to future microbiome-based therapeutic products and communication with clinical partners.

The involvement during the first year is expected to remain relatively limited and flexible, approximately 1–2 meetings per month, mainly focused on consultation, feedback, and strategic medical input while the laboratory infrastructure and regulatory framework are being established.

Depending on the agreed level of collaboration and revenue participation, the role could later expand to include communication and networking with physicians, clinics, and medical partners.

The collaboration is intended as a flexible part-time advisory and consulting role alongside the physician’s existing clinical or academic position. There is no expectation to leave current employment or commit to a full-time role during the initial phase of the project.

Your profile / qualifications

We are looking for a physician with:

• Residency (Assistenzarzt / Assistenzärztin) or professional background in:

1. Gastroenterology
2. Microbiology, Virology und Infektionsepidemiologie
3. Laboratoriumsmedizin
4. General Practice (GP / Allgemeinmedizin)

• Ideally located in Cologne or within approximately a 50 km radius
• Excellent German and English language skills
• Strong interest in scientific research related to the human gut microbiome
• Interest in translational medicine, microbiome therapeutics, and innovative clinical approaches
• Reliable, structured, and realistic working style
• Motivation for long-term collaboration in an emerging field of medicine

We especially encourage highly motivated physicians and resident doctors at various stages of their medical training to reach out if they are interested in microbiome medicine and translational scientific research.
