Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) organization is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.

To help us achieve our objectives, growth, and transformation, we are looking for a Senior Construction Project Manager for the Cologne Metro to work within the DCD (Datacenter Delivery) team alongside the EPC team in country to support data centre construction projects in the region. This role is located in NRW region in Germany.

Responsibilities

• Drives data center construction, integration, and fit-out activities on local/campus projects (new builds, retrofits, infrastructure improvements), making timely, data-driven decisions with local teams and stakeholders, aligned to Safety, Security, Quality, Schedule, and Cost priorities.
• Monitors the approved project budget, oversees project controls (PERs, PSRs, Change Orders, Pay Applications), and applies cost-effective solutions, influence, and negotiation skills to meet delivery targets.
• Provides cost and KPI data, invoices, and process/policy information to communicate status to client partners, and reports progress on scope, schedule, standards, and budget.
• Acts as Microsoft's onsite safety leader, ensuring adherence to OSHA (or equivalent) standards; conducts safety, security, project, and contractor audits, participates in incident investigations, and develops risk mitigation plans with metrics and dashboards reported to leadership.
• Monitors vendor and contractor performance and compliance (security policies, NDAs, contracts, audit results), reviews cash flow and budget summaries with cost management, and assists in preparing RFPs, PERs, and other approval tools.
• Partners with CO+I, CSE, RE&F, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Project Controls, and other stakeholders to maintain corporate vision and goals; attends and advises at owner/architect/contractor meetings and shares updated process flows to drive cost savings and efficiency.
• Reviews engineering documentation, designs, and site/building plans to identify risks and gaps with a security-first lens; confirms scoped resources (people, materials, equipment) are available and partners with senior construction staff to procure more as needed.
  
  

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND related experience OR equivalent experience.

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:

Significant experience working on data center projects.

Background Check Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Construction Project Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across Germany is € 92,800.00 - € 176,200.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
